Silverstone 3rd Race - First Place in Class
A warm sunny bank holiday Sunday was the setting for the Classic Sports Car Club Tin Tops race on the International Circuit at Silverstone. Using the iconic Wing pits complex that we all know from the British Grand Prix.
As you can see from the pictures the car was immaculately turned out and this was to mirror the amazing driving of our driver Andrew Windmill.
The normal thirty minute qualifying was cut short to twenty minutes after a Fiesta hit the pit wall head on at full speed. Luckily no one was injured but the clearing up took some time.
For nineteen minutes of the qualifying the Car Mats UK Honda Civic Type R was running at around eighth on the grid, but in true Lewis Hamilton style on the very last lap of qualifying Andrew shaved seven tenths off his best time to put the car on fifth place on the grid!
The race was the last one of the day, a full field of over forty cars took to the Silverstone start / finish straight to wait for the red lights to go out. Andrew had an amazing start and was up to third place after the first few bends. Unfortunately a serious accident took place behind him and the race was stopped. Fortunately all involved were not seriously hurt but three cars were badly damaged and unable to make the restart.
Following the restart Andrew had another fantastic start and this time was up to second place for the first few laps. He then had long hard battles for second and third place. Coming into the pits for his mandatory stop in a good third spot. He battled the back markers to get back to third after the stops and was fighting hard to move up.
Some more powerful cars behind him started to launch a challenge towards the end of the race and although a tough fight was put up we were classified fourth overall but first place in class! A fantastic race, our words do not do it justice please watch the footage, we guarantee you will not be disappointed.
