Season End Report - Car Mats UK Race Car

Car Mats UK Race Car Season Summary - Part 4

This is the last instalment of the season before the new year and news of what racing we hope to do in 2019.

Following the wash out that was Mallory Park, the team’s thoughts turned to preparing the car for next year; getting the car ready for the 2019 season which starts again at the end of March.

The first thing to do was to ensure the cars performance was still as good as when we started the 2018 season.

The Honda was booked in with Street Racers of Leicester for a rolling road session. After Andrew’s pit lane speeding incident at Donington, the team had installed a pit lane speed limiter in the car which now needed programming into the cars ECU.

The slightly rough running of the engine at lower revs was quickly traced to the throttle bodies being slightly out of balance which was an easy fix.

The car was then run up to temperature before completing a power run to see how much power the car produced at the wheels, but the results were pretty disappointing.

At the start of the season when the new engine was mapped we had 261bhp. After only 5 races this season the engine was now only producing 230bhp. The team were stunned by the huge dip in performance and started to wonder how long the car had been like this. It also helped the team understand why results and lap times hadn’t improved as much this season as had been hoped.

So now we look forward to the start of the new race season in March 2019. Best of luck to the CarMats-UK.com car in future races!
